Promoting ocean and water literacy in school communities

The ProBleu funding support scheme encourages the growth of the Network of European Blue Schools (NEBS) and contributes to the EU mission "Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030" by supporting schools’ innovative projects. The call will support school projects covering a wide variety of topics within the theme of Blue Sustainability. Each project must fall into one of the following lots: ● Lot 1: Ocean/marine projects ● Lot 2: Freshwater projects This call is directed at primary and secondary-level schools (including vocational schools) of the EU-27 Member States and the third countries associated with Horizon Europe (see the list of eligible countries in section 4 of the call for proposals).
Beneficiary & submission
The ProBleu funding scheme aims to support primary and secondary schools to mobilise and engage with children, youth, and the school community in the education for blue sustainability and the protection of marine and freshwater ecosystems. Submission Project applications must be submitted by 30 April 2024 at 17:00 CET (Central European Time), by completing the online application form available on the ProBleu website. Each applicant can only submit one application. A project application is composed of the following elements (compulsory): Online application form: Available here or from the ProBleu website Project description: PDF form available here on the ProBleu website to be completed with the description of the project. The project description must be attached to the online application form and comply with the limits of characters indicated. Declaration of Honour: Word form to be completed according to the template provided on the ProBleu website and signed by the applicant's legal representative. The Declaration of Honour must be attached to the online application form. Evaluation and selection Phase 1: Eligibility and Document Analysis Check of the submitted proposals to analyse their conformity with the eligibility criteria for applicants and applications. Phase 2: Quality and Merit Evaluation Eligible applications are assessed and scored up to 100 points. The minimum score necessary for a project to be considered for financial support (threshold) is 70 points. Each application will be evaluated by two experts selected by the ProBleu consortium. The applications will be evaluated in three dimensions with different criteria: Dimension 1: Quality of the project and outcomes (maximum 35 points; threshold: 20 points) - Topics addressed; Type of activities and expected outcomes; Quality and feasibility of the work plan; Features of the outputs; Links to the school curricula and school activities. Dimension 2: Engagement and impact (maximum 35 points; threshold: 20 points) - Involvement of students; Involvement of the wider school community; Accessibility and inclusion; Exploitation/ reproducibility of outcomes. Dimension 3: Criteria defined by Horizon Europe (maximum 30 points; threshold: 18 points) - Mission objectives; Cooperation/ Twinning; Commitment to a Climate Pact Pledge; Innovation and Open Schooling. Once the list of projects selected for funding is available, the results will be communicated individually to all project representatives and will be publicly announced.
