Open Call for End-Users (Call for Art-Driven Experiments – 1st stage)

Description

The HungryEcoCities project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement 101069990. In this initiative, collaborative efforts between studios, universities, growers, agricultural specialists, artists, and creative thinkers aim to generate innovative ideas for the future of the food system. The project plans to host 20 S+T+ARTS residencies, focusing on defining, designing, and developing AI-enabled responsible, art-driven solutions for end-users in the agri-food industries. In the second call (Call for Art-Driven Experiments), the project aims to identify 10 experiments known as Paths to Progress (PPE) experiments. These experiments involve collaboration between art, science, and industry, with one industrial end-user partnering with a core group of Hungry EcoCities organizations and a selected artist. Together, they will work towards reaching the prototyping stage within the project resources and specified timeframe, addressing challenges in a concrete test site provided by the end-user (e.g., supermarket, bio farm, community garden, production facility, restaurant). The first stage of the second Open Call, the Call for End-Users, will select 10 entities (SMEs including start-ups in the agri-food value chain) receiving a €45,000 lump sum to cover costs. These selected end-users will then collaborate with the Hungry EcoCities consortium to form a team with an artist for further participation in the support program. The selected end-users will enter a 14-month S+T+ARTS support program divided into three stages: Discovery (problem framing and scientific start), Prototype and Set-up (testing digital prototypes, scientific research, and creating the innovation monitoring plan with the selected artist) and Demonstrate (real environment testing). Artists will have a separate application process in the second phase of the Hungry EcoCities Call for Art-Driven Experiments, where an Expression of Interest application process will be initiated.

Beneficiary & submission

The selection of the open-call proposals will be carried out in a three-step process. Step one will check the proposals against eligibility criteria and in/out scope verification. Step two will involve independent external and internal evaluation to assess the proposal according to the criteria. Step three will involve the Hungry EcoCities consortium voting on the list of pre-selected applicants in a Consensus Meeting. For further information see the Guide for Applicants.
