Application Guidelines and Award Procedure at TalTech

Purpose of the Grant

The aim of the Mobility Grants (hereinafter referred to as GRANTS) is to support students' participation in external learning, training, research or practical activities abroad or in Estonia that align with the goals of the MERIT project and contribute to the upskilling of the student. The support is one-time and project-based.

The GRANTS are funded by the MERIT project (EU grant agreement No. 101083531). Under WP6, up to 20,000 euros for mobility grants are available at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech). Maximum amount per one GRANT is 2500 euros.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicants:

• are citizens of the European Union or associated countries (as per MERIT rules);
• are enrolled in the MERIT master’s programme “Industrial Engineering and Management” (MARM) at TalTech;
• are full-time students and not on academic leave at the time of submitting the application;
• apply for participation in a clearly defined mobility activity (e.g., international course, research visit, internship, etc.);
• submit a clear purpose and plan for the use of the funds.

Application Process

Free-form applications must be submitted via e-mail to the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering by:

• 30 September 2025 (autumn semester);
• 28 February 2026 (spring semester).

Each application must include:

• student code, full name, bank account number;
• short description of the planned mobility activity (incl. place, time, duration, purpose, name of receiving organization or organization organizing the event, etc.);
• estimated budget of the planned activity (e.g., travel, accommodation, participation fee);
• confirmation that no double funding will occur (e.g., the applicant will not receive other overlapping grants for the activity).

Grant Amount and Payment

• The amount per student may vary depending on the nature and scope of the planned activity but will not exceed the allocated maximum grant amount.
• The grant is paid as a one-time lump sum after the grant decision is approved by the Head of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.
• Payments will be made to the student’s bank account as follows: 50% in advance within one month of confirmation and 50% after the mobility activity has occurred.

Selection and Prioritization

The selection is based on:

• quality and relevance of the proposed activity;
• potential impact on the student’s skills and MERIT project goals;
• diversity and inclusion (e.g., applicants from underrepresented or low-DESI index backgrounds).

While selecting and prioritizing the applications, the main focus is on the short description of mobility and explanation of its relevance to study targets and MERIT project outcomes.

Reserve list may be created in case of withdrawal or rejection.

Reporting and Follow-up

• Students are expected to submit a brief report after completion of the activity, confirming the grant was used as intended.
• TalTech does not require detailed receipts but reserves the right to ask for clarifications.
• Any misuse or false information may result in reclaiming the grant.
