MERIT Project Excellence Scholarship

Award Procedure and Selection Rules

at TalTech

1. The aim of the Excellence Scholarships (hereinafter referred to as SCHOLARSHIPS) is to support and recognize students who achieve excellent academic results and first and second-year students completing the full curriculum.

2. The SCHOLARSHIPS are granted by the MERIT project. MERIT project is co-funded by the European Union under grant agreement No. 101083531. Up to 100,000 euros are available to be distributed for the targeted scholarships at Tallinn University of Technology (hereinafter referred to as TalTech).

3. The SCHOLARSHIPS can be awarded to persons (hereinafter referred to as APPLICANTS) who are citizens of the European Union (hereinafter referred to as the EU) studying in the MERIT project master's degree program “Industrial Engineering and Management” (MARM) (hereinafter referred to as the PROGRAM) at TalTech.

4. Information about the scholarship is published on the TalTech website.

5. Procedures for awarding SCHOLARSHIPS.

5.1. A student who has been matriculated to the MARM curriculum of master's studies has the right to apply for the MERIT scholarship twice in an academic year – in September and February, starting from the first semester of the academic year of his/her matriculation, and if he/she:

5.1.1. is a full-time student;

5.1.2. completes the curriculum cumulatively in full. The study volume to be completed per semester is 30 ECTS. The volume of the curriculum completed with the recognition of previous studies and work experience (APEL) is not included in the completed volume of the curriculum, except for formal education completed elsewhere during studies.

5.1.3. has not exceeded the standard duration of the curriculum;

5.1.4. is not on academic leave;

5.1.5. The weighted average grade for the entire period of study is at least 4.0 or the admission score of at least 7.0 for a student studying in the first semester.

5.2. To apply for the MERIT scholarship, the student submits a free-form application via e-mail by 30 September 2025 in the autumn semester and by 28 February 2026 in the spring semester to the study consultant of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. The application must indicate: student code, student's first and last name, and the bank account number of the scholarship recipient.

5.3. A ranking shall be compiled for the students who have applied for the MERIT scholarship and meet the requirements specified in clause 5.1 on the basis of the weighted average grade of the semester of the student's participation in studies. If the student has been studying at a foreign educational institution during the last semester mentioned above, the weighted average grade is calculated based on the semester of the last semester of study at the university.

5.4. If the weighted average grade of the last semester of participation in studies is equal for several students, then the weighted average grade for the entire period of study shall be taken into account in the first place, and then preference shall be given to the applicant who has the higher percentage of completion of the study volume to be completed according to the curriculum.

5.5. The outcome of the call for awarding the MERIT scholarship is published on TALTECH website without rankings.

5.6. The amount of the MERIT scholarship is three hundred (300) euros per month, and it is awarded for one semester (five months of study), of which the student is informed by e-mail.

6. Payment and cessation of scholarships

6.1. The recipients of the MERIT scholarship shall be confirmed by the dean no later than five working days before the date of payment of the scholarship in accordance with clause 6.2. The MERIT scholarship shall be transferred to the recipient's bank account on the basis of the order of the dean.

6.2. The MERIT scholarship is paid on the last working day of the current month for the current month, except for the MERIT scholarship for September and February, which is paid on the last working day of the month following the respective month.

6.3. If the recipient of the MERIT scholarship is ex-matriculated (except when completing the curriculum) or goes on academic leave before the date of payment of the scholarship, the scholarship will not be paid to him or her for that academic month, and the payment of the scholarship will be terminated. If a student is ex-matriculated in connection with the completion of a curriculum, he or she will be paid a MERIT scholarship for the entire calendar month of ex-matriculation.

6.4. After the scholarship specified in clause 6.1 has been awarded upon going on academic leave, the payment of the scholarship shall be terminated to the student, except for the student who is completing the curriculum and is:
